From the depths of the Crown Pub's basement in Fort Collins , Colorado , a wonderful jazz adventure has sprung to life.
The Hugh: Jazz Combo (HJC) began in November 2006 with a short-term offer to play jazz standards to a dinner audience each Wednesday night. Quickly, word spread across Fort Collins and all of the Front Range and the response to the Hugh: Jazz Combo's music was overwhelming for both the band as well as the Pub's owners. The short-term gig has now blossomed into a full-time weekly residency and the Wednesday night jazz has been extended to continue indefinitely into the future. With this residency secure, the Combo has elevated their playing to a whole new level.
The Hugh: Jazz Combo plays all types of jazz, fusion, and funk including jazz standards, present fusion classics, and modern interpretations of classic rock, funk, and more. On any given night, an audience will hear the HJC's take on everything from Coltrane to Medeski, Martin, and Wood; from Lee Morgan to Bob Marley. As the band and their brand of music continue to evolve, some original tunes are now being thrown in the mix as well. The Hugh: Jazz Combo is currently performing all over the Front Range , and the response has been amazing!
HJC is made up of nationally touring musicians: Kalin Capra on bass, Evan Wiegel on saxophone/flute, Stu Crair on drums/percussion, and Brad Loucks on keys. Each member brings a wealth of musical experience and jazz chops to the stage each show. The group's players have played over 2,500 shows combined and performed on stages from Vermont to Washington State and beyond. Special guests including world renowned jazz/funk artists frequent the stage with HJC regularly.
From the humble beginnings of the basement of an Old Town Fort Collins bar to performances across the region, the Hugh: Jazz Combo continues its jazz adventure with no end in sight! |
